Unit Planning Reflection

As you completed your review of the unit plans you were tasked with evaluating, what did you see?

This past week, our AEE 412 course was assigned a unit plan and review.  We had to submit a unit plan with all the necessary elements and review two other peers unit plans.

As I was reviewing my peers lesson plans,  I kept noticing things that I had forgotten or needed to improve for myself and for them that I would write as review on their unit plan review.  It was as if having a fresh perspective and looking at a unit plan that was not my own reminded me of what I could do better and also what my peers could add and improve as well.

After reviewing and during the process as ell, I was able to have several "Ah Ha" moments where I was able to connect what I knew from AEE 412 and other courses with what I was doing.  A few of these moments included when I was writing objectives for the unit as a whole and for each individual lesson, I was able to connect what I have learned about Blooms verbs and how to use them effectively and feedback from my peers to improve that section of my unit plan.

Additionally, I was able to connect what I knew about unit planning from AEE 100 to actually creating the lesson plan in AEE 412.  And what we learned about writing lesson plans and how the lesson plan titles should be formatted as questions I was able to apply and tie into the content from AEE 412.

I think the area that my unit plans were lacking in was in the areas of variation in level of difficulty and measurability of my objectives for the unit as a whole and for each lesson.  It is an area that I will have to improve upon as I write more unit and lesson plans in the future. Another area that I was lacking in my unit plan was choosing relevant and applicable standards and matching them with lessons.
