Inquisitions from Readings
After reading and watching the weekly content for AEE 412, I have learned a lot about teaching and the importance of planning as well as encouraging a growth mindset in students and believing in them. However, after having learned so much, I have questions about how to internalize and apply this learning.
A question for my future students and/or future school administrators:
For my future students: What do you believe that you can do in life, in a career, for other people? Whether in the classroom or outside? I would be willing to bet that you can actually do better/more.
A question for your cooperating teacher and/or university supervisor:
What are some methods or tactics that you have used in the classroom to encourage your students to believe in themselves and exceed their internal limits they have placed on their abilities? How have you been able to push students to go above and beyond (to develop a growth mindset)?
Another question ;) : What are some ways that you have reminded yourself and continued to believe that you matter as a teacher in the lives of your students even if it may not seem like it.
A question for one of your current virtual mentors (be specific!) and/or your cohort:
For my cohort: If any of you can remember, as a student, what were some things that teachers did in HS that made you feel capable and believe that you mattered. What were some things they did that made you feel qualified and able to do what you think you couldn't.

You pose a great question Lauren. How do we get students to do more than what they believe they can do? Simply put for me, I just need them to try. Take a day, try. The next day, try a little more. The next day, do it again. One day at a time, one thing to try at a time. And if they have some doubt, compromise sometimes and ask them to give more one day if they give less on another. Students love a compromise because it means they're valued enough to be worked with, not denied.
