Important Takeaways from Various Readings

3- Identify 3 relevant connections to your student teaching internships

  1. One of the biggest connections I made to my student teaching internship was that of how to formulate a course, unit, and lesson plan.  Much of the method to form a course and unit plan can also be applied to creating a lesson plan.  Aside from writing a guideline for the content that should be taught during the lesson, a lesson plan should also include notes and questions that the teacher (me) can follow and ask as the lesson progresses.  Writing these in the lesson plan can help the teacher remember to engage with the students in conversation.
  2. Another connection that can be made to my student teaching internship is that of forward-looking assessment and teaching. This type of teaching applies the content to real-world areas of application of the content and makes the connection for the students so they understand the importance for the content.  This is applicable to my student teaching internship because it is something I will be able to use in my teaching that will help my students understand the importance of what they are learning and look to their futures.
  3. The third connection that can be made to my student teaching internship is that of backward teaching.  I know I have heard the term begin with the end in mind since middle school when my school had a list of beatitudes for students to follow, and now I have the chance to apply it to my teaching internship.  One way I can do this is begin planning a course or lesson with the goals that I want my students to achieve before planning the course instruction and assessments.

2- Identify 2 connections to other courses that are part of your #TeachAg Journey

  1. Some of the focus in AEE 100 was on how to create a well written unit and lesson plan.  We had to make a unit and lesson plan.  Additionally, in my WFED 414 course, we had to write lesson plans that included accommodations for students with disabilities.
  2. Another connection I can make to previous courses is the aspect of forward-thinking teaching.  In many of my science courses such as in plant production which I took in the fall of 2020 and Soil Science at SU Berks in the spring 2020 semester the professors often made references to uses of a certain skill we were learning that he could use in our future lives.

1 – Identify the Outside Connection

  1. In and of itself, reading these articles, reflecting on them, and then finding an article about what we read and how we might use it in the future could be an example of forward-thinking teaching. However, the article I found was published by Scholastic about how to write a lesson plan as a first-year teacher.  The article mentions scripting the lesson plans which was mentioned in one of the articles however, less extensive.  Writing questions to ask students in the lesson plan and scripting the lesson plan could be grouped into the same category.
